The UAE has one of the largest carbon footprints. Until 2014, ACS was dependent plastic water bottles as our water source. The bottled water industry is a huge contributor to carbon emissions and the ultimate issue of climate change. The Boot the Bottle campaign advocates for residents of the developed world to not depend on bottled water, and instead use water dispensers and reusable bottles. Boot the Bottle is in its second year. Its first large accomplishment was when it was involved in eliminating bottled water on the ACS campus in 2014 and is involved in supporting this process in other schools.
An additional aim of this year is to provide free access to clean water to workers of the UAE. This water for workers initiative works to ease the lives of our workers as well as diminish the unsustainable habit from a population of 30,000
This initiative was invested in a sustaino-entrepreneurship competition called Wajib. If the initiative does not get chosen for funding and corporate guidance then fundraising will occur by the Boot the Bottle team. The aim is install water dispensers in worker accommodations as well as supplying workers with reusable bottles to bring to and from work.
